1.FINE PARTICULATE SAMPLER

Application

APM 550MINI is a compact and robust instrument for monitoring PM 2.5 in ambient air that has been designed for the users who have to frequently move the instru- ment from one location to another.

Working Principal

The PM10 and PM2.5 impactors used in the APM 550 mini are based on designs standardized by USEPA and as such the system complies with international norms for PM2.5 samplers. Ambient air enters the APM 550mini sampler through an omnidirectional intlet designed to provide a clear aerodynamic cut-point for particles larger then 10 microns. The stream then passes through a wins impactor that re- tains the fraction between PM10 and PM2.5.The sampling rate is held constant at 1m³ /hr by a critical orifice. A special light weight oil free pump has been used in the instrument and adequate cooling air draft has been provided to ensure that the operating temperature near the filter holder remains close to ambient tremerature. Sampling rate is continuously displayed on a built-in rotameter while the duration of sample is available through a time totalizer.

2.HIGH VOLUME SAMPLER

 Application

High Volume Sampler, APM 430, is a basic instrument used primarily for measuring concentration of suspended particulate matter in atmospheric air. By definition, sus- pended particulates are too small in size to have an appreciable falling velocity and are likely to remain in the atmosphere for significant periods of time. These particu- lates usually range from 1 micron to approximately 100 microns in size.

Working Principal

In APM 430, air-borne particulates are measured by passing air at a high flow-rate of 1.1 to 1.7 cubic meters per minute through a high efficiency filter paper which retains the particles. The instrument measures the volume of air sampled, while the amount of particulates collected is determined by measuring the change in weight of the filter paper as a consequence of the sam- pling. The passage for air reaching the filter is designed to prevent heavier settlable dust particles from reaching the filter. Hence High Volume Samplers measure concentration of Suspended Particulate Matter (SPM) in atmospheric air.

APM 430 comes with a brushless motor which has replaced the conventional high speed blower where carbon brushes are required to be replaced at regular intervals. Therefore there is no need to keep track of carbon brushes. Noise levels are significantly low.

Need

Particulate matter has been treated as a critical pollutant ever since concern for air pollution was felt by society.

Initially, distinction was made between settle-able dust, measured by dust fall and somewhat finer particles that would remain suspended in air, leading to the development of high volume samplers for monitoring the suspended partcul- ate matter .

3. INDOOR AIR SAMPLER

Application

This instrument is used for assessment of work place pollution. APM 821 sampler uses wet chemical methods to sample gaseous toxicants. It can be used to sample a variety of pollutants including oxides of sulphur and nitrogen, halogens, ammonia, sulphides, etc. The particulate sampling head provided with the system would be useful for monitoring particulates like silica, cement dust, metal fumes, asbestos fibres, etc in work areas of cement plants, foundries, etc.

Opertaing Principal

The APM 821 system uses a small battery operated pump to draw air thorough a suitable absorption solution contained in an impinger. If necessary, 2 impingers can be used in series to monitor 2 gaseous pollutants. There is an additional provision to determine suspended particulates in the same exercise by using the open sampling head which takes 25mm diameter filters.

To ensure complete absorption and reduce loss of absorbing solutions by evaporation, the impinger tubes of the APM 821 sampler are kept in an insulated ice tray.

NEED

The increasing general aware- ness of atmospheric pollution and its hazards to the health and well-being of industrial workers is bound to result in greater stress on accurate, re- liable and frequent assessment of work place pollution and worker-exposure. Handy Sam- pler APM 821 has been devel- oped to fulfill this critical need.

4. PERSONAL AIR SAMPLER

Application

The APM 800 systems are capable of sampling air at flow rates ranging from 0.5 to 3.0 LPM – the desired sampling rate for most dusts ( silica, asbestos, oxides of lead, calcium, chromium, arsenic, manganese, etc.) and fumes ( lead, copper, iron cadmium, etc.).

Overview

The increasing general awareness of atmospheric pollution and its hazards to the health and well-being of industrial workers is bound to result in greater stress on accurate, reliable and fre- quent assessment of work place pollution and worker-exposure. A Problem faced in monitoring

worker exposure is that most workers keep moving about on the shop floor as part of their normal duties. The instruments therefore must be worn by the worker. The system is designed to operate for a full shift of 8 hours making it easier to compare workers dose to the TLV levels specified.

This system uses a light weight battery operated pump enclosed in a compact aluminium cabinet provided with a clip so that the system can be belt worn

Need

The factory’s Act 1948 as amended in 86-87 clearly lays down a requirement of regular scientific monitoring of workers exposure for air borne dust. Normally workers keep moving on the shop floor as a part of their normal duties. This is a light weight instrument which can be worn by the worker to get ex- posure of full shift of 8 hours.

5.RESPIRABLE DUST SAMPLER

Application

The APM 460 NL is used for monitoring PM10 in the ambient air in Eco-Sensitive Areas. The special design of the blower impeller and acoustic material used in the blower ensures that it does not produce any unpleasant noise while in operation. Thus the machine can be operated even in silent areas like a library, hospitals, wild life sanctuaryand in other noise sensitive areas including residential areas.

Working Principal

The APM 460 NL sampler uses an improved cyclone (with sharper cutoff) to separate the coars- er particles (>10 microns) from the air stream before filtering it on the 0.5 micron pore-size filter allowing a measurement of both TSP and Respirable fraction of Suspended Particulate Matter (CSIR-NEERI).

Additional advantage with this blower is very low variation in flow rate in 190-230V input power supply range and due to brushless motor, equipment downtime and maintenance efforts are also considerably reduced

  • Almost noiseless as compared to earlier
  • Brushless blower reduces equipment downtime and maintenance
  • Electro Magnetic Interface (EMI) interference has been totally eliminated.
Specifications
  • Flow Rate: 0.9 – 1.4 m³/min (free flow)

  • Particle Size: Particles of 10 microns & below collected on filter paper (SPM); particles larger than 10 microns collected in a separate sampling bottle under the cyclone

  • Sampling Time: Up to 28 hours (maximum)

  • Sampling Time Record: 0 to 9999.99 hours recorded on a Time Totalizer

  • Automatic Sampling: Equipped with a 24-hour programmable timer to automatically shut off the system after the preset time interval

  • Power Requirement: 220 V, Single Phase, 50 Hz AC mains supply

  • Size & Weight: 430 × 320 × 930 mm, 45 kg

Need
